How do I check out an eBook?

To "check out" an eBook you must download it to your computer or mobile device. Viewing the eBook within the database (EBSCO, Gale, or Credo) does not check the eBook out in your name.

An eBook from EBSCO eBook Collection can be checked out for up to 7 days.

An eBook discovered in Gale Virtual Reference Library or Credo Reference cannot be checked out or downloaded.

 

How many people can read an eBook simultaneously?

The short answer to this question: it depends.

Most of our eBooks allow unlimited simultaneous users. So, many users can access and read an eBook within the database. To officially check out an eBook, you must download it. Just as a print book can only be checked out to one person, an eBook, most of the time, can only be checked out to one person. If you are unable to download an eBook and would like to confirm that it is downloadable or not yet checked out, please contact a librarian (reference@viterbo.edu, 608-796-3270, in-person, or by chat).

Can I print pages from an eBook?

Yes. You may print up to 60 pages (per book, per user session) from an EBSCO eBook Collection eBook. There are no printing restrictions for Gale Virtual Reference Library and Credo Reference, however, printing should be limited to single copies of entries.

Can I return an eBook before it is due?

Yes, you can! To return an eBook before it is due, navigate to Adobe Digital Editions. Right click over the title of the eBook. Select "Return Borrowed Item".

You can also return an eBook within Bluefire Reader. Select the eBook by tapping on the cover image. Select "Info" from the upper blue navigation bar. To the right of "Expiration Date..." select "Return Item". Select "Return". Your eBook should be removed from your Bluefire Reader library and successfully returned.

Can I download an eBook to all my mobile devices (smart phone, eReader, tablet)?

The short answer: it depends.

Some eBook publishers limit the reading rights of an eBook to a single device. These eBooks cannot be transferred or read on multiple devices.
